Comments:   Nice Job on the site Martin! My first job after school back in 1956 was as a message boy out of Baillie's Raise Street shop. I can remember helping to wheel a beast (cow carcass) from the slaughter house in Parkend Road in a wheel barrow - the kind that local tradesmen used in those days. One of my favourite jobs was delivering the mince meat to Howie's bakehouses for their pies - one in Quay Street and one in Countess Street - I ususally got a couple of free rubarb tarts. My boss at Raise Street at the time was Jimmy Brown whose rump steak paste was very popular. My older brother Jim worked along with Tom in the Dockhead Street shop at that time. Regards, Hughie McCallum

Comments:   Hi Just found your site and see that Thomas was brother to my Great Grandfather George Kerr Baillie who started his buthcher's business in Paisley after leaving Langalbuinoch Farm on Bute. Never got to meet Great Grandfather or Grandfather Alexander Duncan Baillie (also butcher)as they had passed away but my father (also Alexander Duncan) and I pass on our good wishes to our cousins in Saltcoats. Cheers Stuart

Comments:   If there is one thing I miss about Scotland it is the great "Steak Pie's" that my uncle Jim brought each week from your Butcher shop. I miss the breakfast foods, fruit pudding, black pudding with tattie or soda scones. The bakery items compliment the meats. PS. What is a gigot chop? They've never heard of them in the States and I've never seen one to show them.

Comments:   Hello to my Auld Boss Mr Tom Baillie, just thought I would touch base, I just want to say I worked in Dockhead Street way back in 1976 I only worked for your parents for a few months, but I just want you to know that they were the nicest people that I ever had the pleasure to work for, and I do have happy memories of that time, I left to make a life with my family here in London Ontario Canada, so I have told my Grandchildren about your shop in Dockhead Street, so maybe one of these days now that I have just retired, here in London Ontario I worked at the Sports Medicine Clinic at Universtiy of London Ontario for 15 years,I did have the pleasure of working with the top Orthopedic Surgeons here in Canada who looked after the Candadian Olympic team athletes, so I have been lucky to have known all these talented people, but my best memories are of Saltcoats,so if I am ever back in Saltcoats, we will be in for the best Steak Pie and Sausages and we will let you know who we are All the best for 2005 May Kerr and Family
